Broadmoor Golf Course Review

Broadmoor Golf Course Review

Broadmoor Golf Course, with a central location in NE Portland, is a fun and affordable golf escape in an urban setting. Broadmoor is an old regulation course, and it’s grounds hold so many of the classic characteristics of Portland’s municipal courses, it’s hard to believe that it’s not one. With a mix of challenging and favorable features and a sizable range of tees, Broadmoor properly serves the large variety of golfers of it’s well-populated location. Built along the Columbia Slough amid an array of large, native and mature trees, this course is a convenient get-away to a pleasant golf experience. From several vantage points on the course, mountain views exist, adding to the pleasures of this metropolitan course. When you factor in price and proximity, Broadmoor is a respectable and worthwhile golf venue.

Broadmoor Golf Course, aside from the elevated tees of Holes 1 & 10 and elevated greens of Holes 9 & 18, is mainly flat land with some rolling terrain. Most of the holes provide generous landing space, but some of the fairway cuts are narrow, and the rough beyond is thick. There are a few doglegs throughout, but many of the layouts are relatively straight. The primary source of trouble at Broadmoor is it's old growth trees. Every hole is lined and plotted with a numerous assortment of large trees, including many space consuming willows and other full varieties. Water exists on about half of the holes, varying in levels in which it comes into play. Sometimes, the water is rather avoidable, while other times it must be carried from the tee or bypassed enroute to the green. Bunkers guard a good handful of the greens here, but there’s no fairway sand. The greens are very adequate thanks to a true roll. The putting surfaces provide modest break and speed.

Broadmoor is fairly limited beyond the golf course itself. There is a decent practice green for putting and chipping, but there is no driving range. The proshop is small and basic, but has some retail items and snacks. There’s also a restaurant, called “The Divot Room,” on the premises. A rare and convenient feature here is the centrally located snack shack that sits at a hub of numerous greens and tee boxes on the course.
